Our goals
Many gay men used to hide their sexual orientation. They only started to come out during the civil rights movement of 1968 and the Stonewall riots of 1969. The amendment of the Swiss Penal Code in 1992 and the introduction of the Partnership Law in 2005 essentially gave homosexuals legal equality in Switzerland.
However, it is still not a matter of course for gays and lesbians to come out at work. Some still find it difficult to disclose their sexual preference for people of the same gender, and there are still only a few members of the management and Boards of Directors of large public companies who openly admit to being gay.
Our organisation
Network aims to counter this. As an association of gay managers, self-employed professionals, artists and students, we want to set an example and encourage young people to be open and self-assured about their identity, especially in the workplace, and make a successful career for themselves.
We use our resources and leadership skills to encourage social diversity and acceptance of members of the LGBT community in the arts and politics as well as in the workplace. Together with our partner organisations in Switzerland, our purpose is to promote the equality of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender individuals in our society.
Alongside varied cultural activities, Network offers its members a platform for personal and professional networking. It has regional groups in Basel, Berne, Geneva, Lausanne, Zurich, Central and Eastern Switzerland and Ticino. Our members participate on a voluntary basis in various working groups. Secretarial services, administration of the website and production of our club magazine “Network Mag” are outsourced to professional providers.
